As of 2020, Saratoga Springs is a fast-growing community and has a population of 37,000. Eagle Mountain has around 42,000 people. Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain are nestled between Salt Lake Valley and Utah Valley with many residents working in both.
Unlike Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain does not have its own justice court. Eagle Mountain misdemeanors are prosecuted in the Utah County Justice Court by the Utah County Attorneys Office.
Saratoga Springs Class B Misdemeanors and below are prosecuted in the Saratoga Springs Justice Court by the Saratoga Spring city prosecutor.
Domestic Violence. Domestic violence offenses range from assault & battery, protective orders, electronic communications harassment, criminal mischief, and criminal stalking, among others. Domestic violence convictions seriously impact your ability to possess, use, or transfer firearms.
DUI. Driving under the influence, impaired driving, and metabolite driving are all enhanceable driving offenses. First-time DUIs carry 2 days in jail and you lose your driver’s license for 120 days. Alcohol-related DUI convictions will make you a “not a drop” driver, meaning you can’t drive with any measurable alcohol in your system after your conviction. Further, you will be an interlock-restricted driver. Meaning, you cannot drive a motor vehicle without blowing into a mini portable breathalyzer machine.
Marijuana Possession. Medical marijuana is legal in Utah. However, street marijuana is still completely illegal and carries a 120-day licensing suspension if you are driving at the time of the offense. Marijuana possession convictions, like all most drug convictions are enhanceable offenses, meaning next time you are charged with drugs, the severity of the crimes goes up.
Reckless Driving. Reckless driving carries 80 points on your Utah driving record and a $680 fine. You only get 200 points before the Utah Driver License Division starts disciplining you, possibly suspending or revoking your license. Sometimes, a speeding ticket or careless driving is a more appropriate charge.
Traffic Charges. Speeding 1-9 miles over is a $120 fine and 35 points on your adult Utah driving record. 10-19 miles over is a $240 fine and 50 points on your Utah driving record.
